Drong Ngur Jangchubling is happy to announce an upcoming book study series on Shantideva’s Way of the Bodhisattva. The Way of the Bodhisattva, or Bodhisattvacaryavatara, is a guide to cultivating the mind of enlightenment: generating the qualities of relative bodhicitta such as love, compassion, generosity and patience; and ultimate bodhicitta, the wisdom which realizes emptiness.
This text has been studied, practiced, and expounded upon in an unbroken tradition for centuries, first in India, and later in Tibet. Presented in the form of a personal meditation in verse, it outlines the path of the Bodhisattvas — those who renounce the peace of individual enlightenment and vow to work for the liberation of all beings and to attain Buddhahood for their sake.
The book study will be held each week at our center in Wesley Chapel. We will begin Sunday, January 14th, and sessions will take place from 2:00-3:30pm. We will review a chapter each week until we complete the text. Please note that this is a sangha-led discussion group, so a lama will not be present for our sessions, and study will be facilitated by participating sangha members.
Although several translations are available, our study will be based on the Shambhala edition produced by the Padmakara Translation Group. Participants are encouraged to purchase their own copy of this text, which is available on Amazon. Several copies of the book will be available in our Dharma Store for purchase.
