Sacred Pilgrimage to Ladakh, India

with Drupon Thinley Ningpo to visit with His Holiness

Sacred pilgrimage is considered one of the most precious opportunities a practitioner can embark upon to deepen their devotion to the path of awakening. We are so grateful Drupon Thinley Ningpo Rinpoche and Virginia Blum are offering a unique opportunity for practitioners to journey with them to the Himalayas to pray in the sacred temples and landscapes of the great masters. This offers a beautiful opportunity to expand our knowledge of the Dharma and establish positive karmic connections with sacred sites and a living lineage of masters.

Join us on a journey to Ladakh, India, a special region of the Himalayas known for its preservation of ancient Buddhist culture and tradition. Visit temples hidden high in the clouds, pray in the caves of the most renowned yogis in history, enjoy endless chai and momos, meditate to the sublime chanting of monks in the monastery, and prostrate in gratitude as we we enter the glorious presence of His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche in a special Hevajra Drupchen.

We have the precious opportunity to receive the last teachings His Holiness will offer before he enters into 3 year retreat, so the time is more auspicious than ever.

Each day Drupon Rinpoche will offer practice sessions and teachings to ground us in the heart of Dharma. And throughout the journey we will be blessed with teachings from guest teachers and Rinpoches in the monasteries.

Whether you are new to Buddhism or a seasoned practitioner, this journey is bound to be an experience of a lifetime.

Book your international roundtrip flight from your hometown to NEW DELHI (DEL Indira Gandhi Airport) It will be necessary to book local Indian flights from Delhi to Leh separately.

    International:

    International arrival date:

    • If possible, we recommend arriving in Leh (IXL Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport) June 4th or 5th so you can rest and acclimate for two days to feel fresh for the retreat.  At the very latest, plan to arrive on June 6th because the retreat begins in the morning of the 7th. We recommend trying to get an international flight that arrives in the morning in Delhi, then you can continue on to Leh which is much more pleasant to rest, and no need to get a hotel in Delhi.

    International departure date:

    • The retreat ends the morning of June 21st. You are welcome to travel from Leh to New Delhi and journey home that evening if you wish.

    • It would be best to book an outgoing international flight late in the day if you plan to travel home on June 21st, because LEH flights are often later arrival.

    Local

Local flights From Delhi to Leh:

    • SpiceJet and IndiGo each have late morning flights New Delhi to Leh. There are no afternoon flights leaving New Delhi for Leh, at the time of composing this note.
A roundtrip ticket in Economy will cost approximately $130 - $200.

    • For the return flight from Leh to New Delhi on June 21st, there are multiple morning options, and a few afternoon options.

    • Of course one-way options are available as well.

  • The FAQ document below will answer many of your questions. Here are 4 highlights that may help to shape your plans.

1.) To our knowledge, no travel vaccines are required by law for India if you are coming from the US. But yellow fever vaccine may be required for some other countries, including if you recently visited countries on that list. Please double check online about your departing country.

2.) Visas to India can only be applied for 30 days before arrival, and can be done online.

3.) Ladakh is high in altitude, yet we will not be going on overly adventurous hikes. So if you have good to moderate health, you should be able to adapt just fine in the Himalayan region we will visit.

4.) We recommend that you consider arriving at least two days before the journey begins to sleep and adapt from potential jet lag so you are fresh for the first day of teachings.

5.) If you would like to join H.H for additional teachings while you are already in Ladakh, these are the additional dates. Please note this is not included in the retreat, but we are happy to help you with logistics!

May 22-26 Snake Year Teachings in Lamayuru

(Please keep in mind sometimes H.H. dates can shift by a few days. But this is the most up to date information at this time and we will be keeping our retreat dates the same regardless.)
